Turkmenistan's electric potential rises after commissioning new capacious power plants

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 16

By Farida Nuri - Trend:

The production of electricity by Turkmenistan exceeded 111.6 percent in 2021, Trend reports citing CentralAsia.news.

At the same time, the transmission of electricity rose by more than 134.5 percent

The electric potential of the state has expanded since the commissioning of a large power plant, the Mary HPP, in 2018. The station is aimed at producing about 50 percent of the state's electricity. In the same year, for the first time in Turkmenistan, a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 1,574 MW was built, the annual output is 10 billion kWh. Thanks to the launch of combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT), the volume of harmful emissions into the atmosphere has significantly decreased.

This year, a new gas turbine power plant was opened in the Chardzhev etrap of the Lebap region with the participation of well-known Japanese and Turkish enterprises Sumitomo Corporation, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and Ronesans Holding, with a capacity of 432 MW.

Currently, special attention is paid to the proposal of Turkmenistan to export national energy to the Central Asian countries within the Consultative Meeting of the Central Asian countries.

Afghanistan is Turkmenistan's permanent partner in the energy sector. In August 2021, Kyrgyzstan became a partner, and on November 29, 2019 - Uzbekistan. According to the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, since August, Turkmenistan began supplying electricity to Kyrgyzstan.
