BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 25. Deputy Director-General in the Directorate-General for Energy at the European Commission Matthew Baldwin met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev during his visit to Brussels, which took place from January 19 through 21, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation between the EU and Turkmenistan in the energy sector.

Baldwin noted that cooperation in the field of energy is of particular importance for the EU, and confirmed his readiness to establish new partnerships in this area, and also added that the EU considers Turkmenistan a partner country in the field of energy and is ready to negotiate further cooperation.

In turn, Vepa Hajiyev noted that before the COVID-19 pandemic, Turkmenistan and the EU had been actively cooperating and consulting in the energy sector, and confirmed that the Turkmen side was ready to resume cooperation in this area, to hold talks with the participation of relevant experts from both sides.

He also spoke about the measures taken to diversify the country's energy policy and the development of "green" energy, stressing that special attention is paid to hydrogen energy in Turkmenistan.

Recently, during his visit to Brussels, Vepa Hajiyev met with the head of the Directorate-General for Multilateral Affairs and Globalization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Ghislain D'hoop during which they discussed the priorities of creating a format of business cooperation.
