BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 1. A meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in the field of transport will be held in Turkmenistan this year, a source in the UNECE told Trend.
"The UNECE Working Party on Transport plans to hold its meeting in Turkmenistan in 2023 and combine it with an event dedicated to the electronic system of international customs transit (TIR)," the organization said.
It was noted that Turkmenistan is among the beneficiaries of the project to improve the capacities of UNECE member States to decarbonize the transport sector by increasing the use of natural gas as a motor fuel.
"The project develops and distributes recommendations and policy guidelines that, when fully implemented, will effectively increase the share of natural gas in road transport and, consequently, reduce carbon emissions in this sector," the UNECE said.
The organization added that the organization held a seminar for Turkmenistan on the digitalization of transport services to strengthen national capacity for accession and effective implementation of UN transport-related legal instruments.
