BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the Governor of the Astrakhan region of Russia Igor Babushkin during which they discussed the opening of a regular shipping line on the Caspian Sea, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.

During the meeting, Berdimuhamedov noted the expediency of opening a regular shipping line between the ports of the Turkmen city of Turkmenbashi and the Astrakhan region, stressing that the Turkmen side is ready to consider constructive proposals to expand cooperation in various directions, taking into account the existing prospects.

Special emphasis was placed on the availability of broad opportunities for cooperation in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry. In this regard, the possibility of joint work within the framework of industrial cooperation of Astrakhan shipbuilders with the Balkan plant in Turkmenbashi is being worked out.

The parties noted their interest in expanding the commodity nomenclature in mutual trade turnover, as well as establishing closer contacts between representatives of the business community.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan will take part in the international forum on transport logistics of the Caspian region, which will be held on April 26 through 27 in the Russian city of Astrakhan.

The forum will be attended by representatives of the public sector, transport and logistics companies, as well as experts in this field from the states of the Caspian region, India and other countries.
