BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. The number of bank cards issued in Turkmenistan as of the beginning of April 2023 amounted to 5.26 million, which is slightly higher than at the beginning of March (5.23 million), Trend reports with reference to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.
According to the bank, the largest number of cards was issued in the capital of the country - Ashgabat (1.8 million cards), followed by Mary (936,393 cards) and Lebap (865,830 cards) regions.
Dayhanbank State Commercial Bank issued the most cards - 1.87 million, followed by the Turkmenistan State Commercial Bank (over 1.02 million) and the Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (614,705 cards).
Over the past four years, the number of cards issued in Turkmenistan has doubled.
The number of bank cards issued in Turkmenistan at the end of 2022 is 5.17 million, which is 8.3 percent higher than at the end of 2021 (4.77 million cards).
Turkmenistan's financial sector is constantly expanding. In particular, mobile applications are being introduced to pay for various services and goods, the number of transactions is increasing, and payment methods through bank terminals are being offered.
