BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. FAO is implementing a project for the construction of wells and water reservoir in the Karakum desert of Turkmenistan, Trend reports.

According to FAO, the project integrated natural resources management in drought prone and salt affected agricultural production landscapes in the Central Asian countries and Türkiye has built 10 wells and 10 water reservoir in Turkmenistan to provide water to livestock farms and the population of desert communities.

Wells provide uniform watering of pastures, and water reservoir provide water to livestock farms and the population of desert communities.

One well provides water from 700 to 1000 hectares of pastures, and a herd of 150-220 sheep.

Furthermore, 6 wells and 6 water reservoirs have been constructed in the Baharden district of the Ahal region, 2 wells and 2 water reservoir in the Dashoguz and Lebap regions, respectively.

The Karakum sandy desert is one of the largest in Central Asia, occupying almost 75 percent of the territory of Turkmenistan. It exceeds the territory of such states as UK, Italy or Norway.
