ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 1. The agricultural farms of the Mary region, located in the southeast of Turkmenistan, have commenced planting potatoes, Trend reports.

According to an official source, 9,000 hectares of land have been allocated for potatoes in the region this season, which are distributed between districts.

For example, in the Sakarchage district, potatoes will be planted in the current sowing area on 1,450 hectares, and in the Murghab district on 1,150 hectares.

Furthermore, some changes have been made to the 'Watan' farm in the course of potato sowing.

The farm decided to sow a Russian potato variety on 23 hectares out of 120 hectares allocated for this vegetable crop as an experiment.

This decision was made after a thorough study of the productivity of this variety and if the experiment gives positive results, then in the future the area for the Russian variety will be expanded.

Meanwhile, Turkmenistan is striving for sustainable development of agriculture through modernization of infrastructure, introduction of modern technologies and diversification of production.

The country is actively investing in infrastructure, developing new crops, supporting small farms and paying attention to environmental sustainability.
