ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 15. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi has praised Turkmenistan's efforts to eradicate statelessness, Trend reports via Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry.
According to information, Grandi stated this in his welcoming speech at the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the Program of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
In the course of the session, Turkmenistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Vepa Hajiyev noted the significance of the initiatives proposed by the President of Turkmenistan, which led to the completion of the campaign to eradicate statelessness in the country.
Meanwhile, this event became an important milestone in the realization of human rights and strengthening of Turkmenistan's international commitments.
Furthermore, Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan Amanmuhammet Sazakov emphasized in his speech that as a result of this campaign, more than 32,000 people obtained Turkmen citizenship, and more than 5,000 people received residence permits.
