Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to allow NATO to send non-lethal supplies through their territories to Afghanistan, said Rear Admiral Mark Harnitchek of the U.S. Transportation Command on Friday, Russian news agencies reported.

Tajikistan agreed to provide its rail and automobile routes for the transit of non-military supplies to Afghanistan, Harnitchek said after a meeting with Tajik Foreign Minister Kharokhon Zarifi, Xinhua reported.

The United States plans to transit 50-200 containers weekly from Uzbekistan into Tajikistan and then by land into neighboring Afghanistan, the rear admiral said.

Washington also secured Uzbekistan's consent for such transit, he added.
