The Treaty on the Uzbek-Tajik state border is in force

Uzbekistan, Tashkent, March 24 / Trend corr.T. Zhukov / In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, there were exchanged instruments of ratification for the entry into force of the Treaty on the Uzbek-Tajik state border, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry informed. 
The agreement was signed by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmonov 5 October 2002 in Dushanbe. 
"At the present time, all necessary domestic procedures implemented as appropriate. In accordance with Article 9 of the Treaty, it shall enter into force on 24 March 2009, i.e. since the signing of the Protocol on the exchange of instruments of ratification ", - an official communication of MFA stated. 
The treaty approves the course of the majority of the state border between the two countries agreed up to the date. 
The next stage of work of intergovernmental commissions of two states will be the completion of the delimitation of the remaining small areas until the end of 2009 and a demarcation of the Uzbek-Tajik state border in full accordance with international law. 
"Entry into force of the Treaty will contribute to the earliest international legal registration of the state border, ensuring its security, the further deepening of cooperation between the two countries based on friendship and good neighborliness, mutual respect and equality", - said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
