The Senate of the Oliy Majlis (upper chamber of Uzbek parliament) approved a law "On list of categories - Uzbek citizens that are subject to permanent residence permit in the Tashkent city and Tashkent region".
The law has been initiated by a group of members of the Legislative (lower) Chamber of Oliy Majlis. It is aimed at resolving the issues of permanent residence in the Tashkent city and Tashkent region and ensuring legality in this sphere.
Until now, residence registration in Tashkent city and Tashkent region has been regulated by a number of subordinate and departmental regulatory acts, presidential decrees and government regulations.
According to the law approved by senators, the list of persons entitled to permanent residence in the Tashkent city and Tashkent region, included citizens with housing, acquired in accordance with the law.
Persons appointed, approved or elected appropriately to the corresponding positions in the bodies of state authorities and departments during their stay in appointed, approved or elected office, as well as highly skilled professionals, who are invited to work in state organizations of national significance, are registered in the capital for their term of office.
During discussion of the law senators stressed that it will contribute to objective review of citizens' appeals regarding residence permits, preventing abuse and ensuring law and order and public safety in Tashkent.
The law will come into force after it is approved by the president and published by media outlets.
