Uzbekistan, Vietnam discuss economic ties

Areas of economic development and cooperation were discussed during a meeting of an Uzbek-Vietnamese intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation in Tashkent today.

The sides stressed Uzbekistan's and Vietnam's considerable potential to promote bilateral trade and economic relations.

The head of the Vietnamese delegation, co-chairman of the commission, First Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of Vietnam Le Zan Vin said that Uzbekistan and Vietnam can develop fruitful cooperation not only in oil and gas industry, but also in the automotive industry, the production of spare parts, agriculture, processing industry, engineering, electrical engineering, trade, tourism, banking and financial sector.

Uzbek First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Akmal Kamalov stressed that the volume of Uzbek-Vietnamese trade turnover does not correspond to the existing opportunities. According to the Uzbek side, as of 2010, bilateral trade totaled $ 7.6 million, and $ 5.5 million for the first half of 2011.

The relations between Vietnam and Uzbekistan are regulated by a number of documents.
