Uzbek, Ukrainian FMs discuss ways of boosting cooperation

On Monday a meeting was held with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko, who arrived in Tashkent on an official visit, at the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan, Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The two sides exchanged views on ways and mechanisms of boosting contacts between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Ukraine, both bilaterally and within international and regional organizations.

During the negotiations the sides confirmed the proximity and similarity of views and approaches of Uzbekistan and Ukraine on many issues of bilateral cooperation, regional and international issues.

It was noted that Ukraine and Uzbekistan are actively cooperating within such international organizations as the UN and the CIS. Political authority, the geopolitical importance and economic potential, as well as geographical location attaches important role Ukraine and Uzbekistan in enhancing inter-regional trade ties, development of transport and communication relations in the CIS and beyond it.

Following the negotiations, a cooperation program for 2012 was signed between the foreign ministries of both countries, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of World Economy and Diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan and the Diplomatic Academy of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
