Uzbekistan to join long-term cooperation treaty with SCO

Uzbek Senate Oliy Majlis (upper house of the parliament) will consider the law on "Ratification of the treaty on long-term friendship and cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-states (Bishkek, August 16, 2007) at the plenary meeting on August 30-31, the Parliament said today.

Uzbek Senate Oliy Majlis (upper house of the parliament) will consider the law on "Ratification of the treaty on long-term friendship and cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-states (Bishkek, August 16, 2007) at the plenary meeting on August 30-31, the Parliament said today.

The law was passed by the legislative lower house of the Parliament on August 8 and submitted for approval to the Senate on August 9.

The contract envisages the legal registration of good-neighborly friendship and cooperation based on the principles and norms of international law established within the SCO.

The contract meets the national interest of the peoples of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-states. It promotes the cause of peace and stability in the SCO, and creates a legal basis for joint efforts to effectively confront the modern challenges and threats to security.

The principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of the borders of the SCO countries, peaceful settlement of differences and disputes, as well as mutual respect for choosing the political, economic, social and cultural development in accordance with the national features of each country.

The ratification of the treaty does not require any amendments and additions to existing legislation.
