Uzbek president to attend CIS summit in Ashgabat

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will attend a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), to be held in Ashgabat on Dec.5, the National New Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) reported.

According to the CIS executive committee, the summit will consider 20 draft documents aimed at deepening regional cooperation in the economic, humanitarian and security areas.

The heads of states will consider draft decisions on the preparation for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, interstate programme Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth, as well as the declaration of 2013 as the year of ecological culture and environmental protection in the CIS.

The presidents will also consider draft agreements on cooperation in the field of an integrated currency market of the CIS member states.

One of the key documents aimed at the strengthening international cooperation is a draft decision on the activities of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states to strengthen integration cooperation within the Commonwealth.

The draft documents relating to the field of security and countering new challenges and threats including an agreement on the formation of CIS council of heads of financial intelligence departments will be considered at the meeting. The summit is also expected to approve the prospective development directions of the united air defence system of the CIS state members.
