Uzbek president to visit Latvia

Uzbek president Islam Karimov will pay a state visit to Latvia on October 16-17 at the invitation of Latvia's president Andris Berzins, the press-service of the president said.
The visit program includes a meeting and negotiations with the Latvian leadership during which " the progressive development of cross-cutting issues of Uzbek-Latvian relations, topical regional and international issues will be discussed," the report said.
On the results of the visit it is planned to adopt a joint statement of the heads of states, signing of several documents aimed at further strengthening of bilateral relations in political, trade and investment, transport and communication spheres, as well as in the field of environment protection.
The economic relations between the countries are currently being regulated by the agreements on economic and industrial cooperation, on promotion and protection of investments, on avoiding double taxation and several other intergovernmental and interagency documents.
As of 2012, the foreign trade turnover between the countries increased by 18.4 per cent, to $243.2 million and was equal to $ 125.6 million in the first six months of 2013.
