The third plenary meeting of the Senate (upper house of Uzbek parliament) has opened in Tashkent.

As many as 11 issues, including six laws are on the meeting's agenda in accordance with the decision of the Council of Senate.

The Senate will consider the law "On amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan to further strengthen the reliable protection of private property, business entities, removing barriers to their rapid development."

The document has been worked out in accordance with the decree of Uzbekistan's president "On measures to ensure reliable protection of private property, small business and private entrepreneurship, removing barriers to their rapid development" dated May 2015.

The agenda includes the law "On investment and mutual funds", aimed at creating the legal mechanisms enhancing the business activity in the country, the creation of an effective system of collective investment that creates opportunities for people, businesses and entrepreneurs to temporarily invest free funds in various investment projects.

The senators will also discuss the law "On Physical Culture and Sports" in the new edition of the law "On the sanitary-epidemiological welfare of the population".

Moreover, the Senate members will hear a report on the activity of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan in 2014.

Uzbekistan's bicameral parliament was created in 2005. Its legislative chamber permanently has 150 MPs.

The upper house - Senate has 100 MPs elected in equal numbers, i.e. six MPs from the Karakalpakstan Republic, provinces and the city of Tashkent. Another 16 members of the Senate are appointed by Uzbek president from among the most distinguished citizens.

The Senate meetings are held in case of necessity, but at least three times a year.
