Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission has signed bilateral agreements with media outlets on coverage of the process of preparations and holding of the presidential election in the country.

The agreements have been signed with Uzbekistan’s National TV and Radio Company, Uzbekistan National News Agency, Jahon news agency, National Association of Electronic Mass Media and Uzreport news agency, according to the CEC.

Under the agreements, a special attention will be paid to the consistent coverage of activities of election commissions, creation of wide and equal opportunities for presidential candidates in using media for election campaign.

Uzbekistan will hold an early presidential election Dec. 4. The election will be held in accordance with the country’s constitution due to the death of President Islam Karimov.

Election campaigns started Sept. 9. Registration of presidential candidates will be held from Sept. 30 until Oct. 20 in accordance with the action plan for preparations and holding the presidential election.

Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov passed away Sept. 2 after suffering a stroke.

Four political parties in the country have the right to nominate a presidential candidate.

They are the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, Democratic Party Milly Tiklanish (National Revival), People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan and Social Democratic Party Adolat (Justice).
