The existing ties between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are a vivid example of friendly, good neighborly relations, said Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the opening of memorial complex of the country’s first president Islam Karimov, the National News Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) reported.

The memorial complex opened in the Turkmen city of Turkmenabat, the administrative center of the Lebap province, which borders with Uzbekistan, as part of the Uzbek president’s state visit to Turkmenistan.

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid a state visit to Turkmenistan at the invitation of the country’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on March 6-7.

Berdimuhamedov also participated in the memorial complex’s opening ceremony.

Moreover, Presidents Mirziyoyev and Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony of road and railway bridges Turkmenabat-Farab over the Amu Darya River, which are integral parts of the New Silk Road international transportation corridor.

President Mirziyoyev noted that these bridges are a symbol of friendship of the two countries’ peoples and have a geostrategic importance not only for Turkmenistan, but for the whole region.

The 1,750-meter long railway bridge is the most grandiose engineering structure in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan.

The railway bridge Turkmenabat-Farab is of great importance for the development of local economy, since there is a junction station in Turkmenabat.
