By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:
Within the framework of the concept of forestry development in Uzbekistan, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is considering attracting international investment to combat desertification in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Uzbek news agency.
A more complete name of the project following the Resolution of the President is called “The Concept for the Development of Forestry in Uzbekistan until 2030”.
The development of the document was initiated within the FAO project on "Sustainable forest management in mountainous and valley regions of Uzbekistan", implemented jointly with the State Forestry Committee of Uzbekistan and funded by the Global Environment Facility.
When developing the concept, the best foreign experience in the field of forestry was taken into account, including the proposals of specialists from Italy and Hungary on sustainable forest management, gender issues, and institutional development. At the same time, experts from Germany and Turkey presented their visions of pasture management and lease relations.
“I would like to especially note the concern of Uzbekistan’s leadership for the development of the forest industry, which contributes to all the achieved results, the transformation of structural units, and the improvement of the well-being of forest workers,” said the technical coordinator of the FAO project Olimjon Kakhkharov.
The Concept pays great attention to supporting small business and private entrepreneurship in the forestry sector, creating new jobs, and introducing unused rainforest lands into circulation.
In addition, the concept is focused on attracting international investments in combating desertification, biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, training, and retraining of personnel.
