Cotton fiber production increases in Uzbekistan

The volume of cotton fiber production in Uzbekistan in 2020 increased by 17.9 percent compared to the same period in 2019, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, Uzbekistan produced 574,800 tons of cotton fiber in from January through December 2020.

The Committee also said that volume of cotton yarn produced by the enterprises of Uzbekistan for the reported period amounted to 460,500. It was noted that the growth compared to the same period in 2019 accounted for 1.7 percent.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan increased the production of cotton fiber by 39.31 percent in 11M2020 compared to the same period in 2019.

According to the committee, the volume of cotton fiber Uzbekistan produced for 11M2020 amounted to 510,700 tons.

Uzbekistan’s enterprises in November 2020 increased output of cotton yarn by 49.3 percent, producing 407,100 tons of cotton yarn. The growth compared to the same period in 2019 then amounted to 9.1 percent.

According to the decision of the government, the country has completely abandoned the export of cotton fiber since 2019. At the same time, in March 2020, the government order for the cultivation of cotton fiber was also abolished. Instead, cotton fiber will be grown by cotton textile clusters and farmers.

In addition, the starting price of the cotton fiber is determined by the seller based on the value of the New York Mercantile Exchange futures quotation.
