Uzbekistan eyes increasing supplies of fresh and dried fruit and vegetable products to Malaysia

Uzbekistan and Malaysia parties discussed the importance of further increasing the volume of supplies of Uzbek fresh and dried fruit and vegetable products to Malaysia, Trend reports referring to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Malaysia.

On April 26, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ravshan Usmanov, held talks with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Malaysia Ronald Kiandee, during which issues of further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the agricultural and food industry were discussed.

Ronald Kiandee, appreciated the work organized by Uzbekistan to reform the country's agriculture, in particular, to improve the system of public administration, the widespread introduction of market relations, strengthen the legal framework for relationships between entities that produce, process, and sell agricultural products, attract investments to the industry, and introduce resource-saving technologies, as well as providing agricultural producers with modern technology.

The minister said that the adopted Strategy for the Development of Agriculture of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030 deserves special attention, which provides for the diversification of production, improvement of land and water relations, the creation of a favorable agribusiness climate and a high value-added chain, support for the development of cooperative relations, widespread introduction of information and communication technologies into the industry, as well as the effective use of scientific achievements and increasing human resources.

Following the meeting, agreements were reached on holding negotiations in an online format between the leadership of the State inspectorate for quarantine of plants under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, the Malaysian Department of Agriculture and the MAQIS quarantine service inspectorate to study Malaysian experience in this industry, establish partnerships between the Uzbek Research and Production Center of Agriculture and Malaysian Institute.
