Saudi Arabia eyes importing finished meat products from Uzbekistan

Saudi Arabia also expressed interest in the participation of its companies in the processing of livestock products and the import of finished meat products from Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the Uzbek agriculture ministry.

Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjayev met with Minister of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia, Abdulrahman Al-Fadli, as well as with the representatives of the Agricultural Development Fund and other Saudi investment companies in the agriculture and food industry.

During negotiations, the parties considered the possibilities of organizing an Agroforum and an exhibition of products of Uzbek agricultural producers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the fall of 2021.

Also, the issues of land development and the introduction of new technologies were also discussed with the attraction of investments of Saudi businessmen in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan and the creation of additional opportunities for Saudi companies.

In addition, Al-Fadli noted his readiness to expand investments in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan, which according to him, occupies a central place in Central Asia and carries out a coordinating role in the region.

The Saudi side also showed interest in cooperation on the ‘extension’ system, including with the participation of the private sector, within the framework of AKIS, Agriculture Knowledge and Innovation Systems launched in Uzbekistan.

Moreover, the parties discussed a possible exchange of experience on the Saudi Arabia Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative programs implemented by Saudi Arabia, aimed at restoring, preserving, and sustainable management of one billion hectares of land in the country and the Middle East region by planting more than 60 billion trees by 2040.

It is reported that the Saudi side expressed interest in the participation of its companies in the processing of livestock products and the import of finished meat products from Uzbekistan. An agreement was reached on organizing a visit of a delegation of agricultural enterprises to Uzbekistan in June 2021.

Also, a memorandum was signed with AL Rajhi International on the implementation of an investment project in the development of horticulture, greenhouses, grain processing, cotton, and livestock products.

Within the framework of cooperation, it is envisaged to expand the export of agricultural products from Uzbekistan and provide social and financial support to Uzbek agricultural enterprises and farmers for the development of the production chain in the sector.
