Processing and packaging of pomegranates was established as a result of the organization of Sherobod Agro Impex enterprise in the Sherabad district of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, Trend reports referring to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.
During the visit to Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the activity of the modern greenhouse complex.
According to the press service of president of Uzbekistan, the greenhouse complex was organized last year by Sherobod Agro Impex LLC. It is noted that tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers and eggplants are grown in the 29-hectare greenhouse.
The complex is using equipment from South Korea and Slovenia.
The production capacity of the enterprise amounts to 6,000 tons of packaged products and two tons of pomegranate juice.
According to the information, pomegranate fruits are purchased from the population and horticultural farms. About 30,000 tons of pomegranates are grown annually in the Sherabad region, of which 8,000 tons are exported.
Until recently, there were 2,400 hectares of pomegranate orchards in the region. This year, farms and entrepreneurs have laid 3,000 hectares of pomegranate orchards on the site of low-yielding cotton and grain fields.
“In three years, it will be possible to harvest 18,000 tons in the new gardens. It is planned to process 8,000 tons and export 10,000 tons of pomegranates,” the message said.
