Uzbekistan sees decrease in consumer prices and tariffs

The average level of consumer prices and tariffs decreased by 0.2 percent last month in Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the Uzbek media.

At the same time, the prices for consumer prices have increased by 4.4 percent with an average monthly value of 0.7 percent since the beginning of the year (from January through June).

In annual terms, an increase in consumer prices reached 10.9 percent.

Food products decreased by 0.9 percent for the month (in June 2020 - 1.2 percent), but the prices have increased by 5.7 percent since the beginning of the year.

After a monthly rise in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages during the five months of this year, the prices decreased (by one percent for the month) for the first time in June.

The prices for fruits and nuts (-3.8 percent), fat and oil products (-2.8 percent), vegetables, tubers, plantains and legumes (-2.6 percent), as well as dairy products and eggs (-1.6 percent) decreased.

The prices for meat products, sugar, confectionery and desserts increased more than for other products (0.4 percent).

The prices for fat and oil products continue to increase compared to the end of last year (22.5 percent).

Moreover, fruits and nuts (16.1 percent), as well as sugar, confectionery and desserts (7.1 percent) were among the top three in terms of price growth in the first half of 2021.

In annual terms, fat and oil products (1.5 times), vegetables, tubers and plantains and legumes (28.4 percent), sugar, confectionery and desserts (15.7 percent), meat products (14.5 percent), milk, other dairy products and eggs (11.6 percent) became much more expensive.

Among the main foodstuffs (excluding fruits and vegetables) for the month, prices greatly decreased for eggs (-7.6%) in June 2021.

As a result of the adoption of a set of measures to stabilize the prices for vegetable oil, it became cheaper in June 2021 on average in the country by 3.6 percent, the State Statistics Committee said.

Moreover, there was a decrease in prices for poultry meat (from -0.1 percent to -0.5 percent), fresh milk (-0.3 percent), frozen fish, buckwheat (-0.2 percent), cottage cheese, rice (-0.1 percent) in June 2021.

The prices for soft drinks (0.9 percent), sugar (0.8 percent), beef (0.6-0.7 percent), lamb (0.4 percent) increased.

The prices for vegetable oil (1.3 times) and granulated sugar (14.7 percent) increased compared to December 2020.

Among fruits and vegetables, the prices for bell peppers (-62.9 percent), eggplants (-53.2 percent), cucumbers (-48.6 percent) and tomatoes (-47.5 percent) decreased.

The highest rise in prices for the month was observed for carrots (1.8 times). The prices for carrots increase in early 2021 and in annual terms (2.9 times and 3.2 times, respectively).

Alcoholic beverages in June 2021 became more expensive by 0.3 percent for the month, including beer - by 0.6 percent, spirits and liqueurs - by 0.2 percent. Tobacco products have risen in price by two percent during this period.

The alcoholic beverages increased in price by 4.5 percent, including alcoholic beverages and liqueurs - by 5 percent, beer - by 3.5 percent, wine - by 2.8 percent compared to December 2020. Tobacco products have become more expensive by 9.1 percent since the beginning of the year.

In annual terms, the prices for alcoholic beverages increased by an average of 8.9 percent, tobacco products - by 14.4 percent.
