European Commission, AFD to assist Uzbekistan in sewerage system renovation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 24. The European Commission and the French Development Agency (AFD) have provided funding for the implementation of the projects regarding sewerage systems renovation in Uzbekistan, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

The AFD approved the allocation in the amount of a total of 105 million euros, and the European Commission approved a grant in the amount of 9 million euros for the implementation of the projects.

In particular, 24.7 million euros were allocated for the implementation of the “Construction of sewerage systems in the Karmaninsky district of Navoi region” project. The loan was allocated with the condition of repayment within 20 years, including a six-year grace period. The total cost of the project is 28 million euros.

The total cost of the “Reconstruction and construction of sewerage systems in the city of Shakhrisabz and the district center of Kitab district of Kashkadarya region” project is 91 million euros, of which 80.3 million euros were allocated by the AFD.

Meanwhile, Uzsuvtaminot JSC is the responsible executive body for ensuring the timely implementation of organizational and technical measures necessary for the timely and high-quality implementation of the projects, as well as the effective use of the borrowed funds.
