BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. A new element in implementation of energy policy in Uzbekistan is active introduction of financing mechanisms for construction of power generating stations, spokeswoman of the Uzbek Ministry of Energy Elmira Bekmurodova told Trend.

“For example, for the development of renewable energy sources (RES), the mechanism of public-private partnership is being actively used,” Bekmurodova said.

She noted that Uzbekistan pays special attention to introduction of energy-saving technologies and the development of renewable energy sources, and it is expected to increase the share of electricity production using all types of renewable energy sources to a level of at least 25 percent by 2026.

“In order to increase the efficiency of electricity generation, a market tariffication mechanism for the final product is gradually being introduced. This should increase the rational use and operation of the country's electricity system as a whole,” Bekmurodova said.

According to her, the public-private partnership, together with the market tariffication mechanism, will ensure a reduction in the cost of electricity and, as a result, a favorable tariff policy in the medium and long term.

“As of 2022, dozens of new large investment projects in the field of renewable energy are at various stages of implementation. Uzbekistan is actively attracting international financial and consulting structures to the development of this sector. The launch of new renewable energy facilities and the modernization of existing HPPs will ensure the production of an additional 37 billion kWh of electricity, which should conditionally save more than 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas,” Bekmurodova said.

She also added that over the past three years, 10 cooperation agreements have been signed in this direction with international companies on projects for the construction of solar and wind power plants.
