BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Uzbekistan is working to reduce rice imports, allocating a total of 117,700 hectares of land for its planting in 2022, Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture.

According to the ministry, 57,100 hectares of these plots fall on the main areas, and rice will be planted as a re-crop on 60,600 hectares.

In total, it is planned to harvest 578,000 tons of rice this year.

Rice is mainly grown by farmers in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Namangan, Andijan, Jizzakh, Fergana, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya and Tashkent regions of the country.
