BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 6. The US and Uzbekistan are considering preferential treatment for the export of Uzbek textile products to the US market, Trend reports via Uzbek media outlets.

This became known following the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev and the Ambassador of the US to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick.

Currently, the volume of Uzbek textiles supplied to the US is extremely small. The US is not even in the top 14 export markets for Uzbek textiles.

However, the US Department of Labor in September of this year announced the exclusion of cotton produced in Uzbekistan from the so-called list of goods produced using child and forced labor.

This decision cancels restrictions on the import of cotton produced in Uzbekistan and products from it into the US, thereby opening up new opportunities for the export of textile products.

In general, the export of Uzbek textiles for 10 months exceeded $2.6 billion with an increase of 10.7 percent. From January through October 2022, 532 types of textile products were exported to 69 countries.

By 2025, the government expects textile exports to grow to $7 billion.
