BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23. More than 117,400 tons of fish have been caught in Uzbekistan from January through December 2022, Trend reports via the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, this figure increased by 3.2 percent, compared to the reporting period in 2021.

A large share of the total volume of fish caught fell to Uzbekistan’s Khorezm region (16.6 percent), Andijan region (12.4 percent), Samarkand region (9.5 percent) and Tashkent region (8.6 percent).

The volume of fishery products, from January through December 2022, amounted to 162 billion soums ($14.2 million), while the total volume of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries products amounted to 364.5 billion soums ($32.1 million).

Uzbekistan farms fish varieties such as carp, perch, trout, salmon, smelt, sturgeon, tilapia, walleye, etc.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture said that over the past five years, some 1,016 projects worth 2.2 trillion soums($193.7 million) have been implemented in the fishing industry of Uzbekistan, which made it possible to increase fish production by 6 times. Over the past few years, fish consumption increased by 5.7 times.
