Uzbekistan’s import of electric vehicles exceeds $50M in 1Q2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 6. Uzbekistan has imported 1,668 electric vehicles worth $54.7 million from January through March 2023, Trend reports via Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

During the reporting period, Uzbekistan’s import of e-vehicles has increased by almost 3.6 times, compared to the figure for the first quarter of 2022 (453 cars).

Uzbek statistics note that the largest amount of electric cars were imported in March – 882.

China was the leading electric vehicle-exporting source for Uzbekistan in the reporting period– 1,444 cars. The remaining exporters of e-vehicles were Hong Kong – 183 cars, Germany – 27 cars, South Korea – 6 cars, and the UAE – 5 cars.

In 2022, Uzbekistan imported 2,180 electric vehicles worth $69.8 million – an increase of 1,371 e-vehicles, or 2.7 times, compared to 2021. During this period, the majority of the electric vehicles Uzbekistan imported from China – 1,941.

Furthermore, taking into account, the growing demand for electric vehicles among the Uzbek population, the country’s government eyes to install 2500 charging stations for electric vehicles by 2025, by fulfilling the Presidential “On measures to expand the infrastructure for the operation of electric vehicles" resolution.

According to the resolution, from January 1, 2024, all newly built shopping and business centers, places of entertainment and recreation, gas stations, hotels, and infrastructure facilities along international, as well as national highways must have charging stations.
