China increases import of fruit, vegetables from Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 9. Uzbekistan has exported to China some 39,600 tons of fruit and vegetables worth $30.4 million from January through March 2023, Trend reports citing the Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

The volume of exports to China, during the first three months of 2023, increased by 42.4 percent, compared to what was exported in the first quarter of 2022 – 27,800 tons worth $23.7 million.

From January through March 2023, the trade partners of Uzbekistan imported some 217,600 tons of fruit and vegetables, decreasing by 1.2 times or 41,400 tons.

The main importers of Uzbek fruit and vegetables, along with China, were the following countries Kazakhstan (67,900 tons), Russia (44,700 tons), Kyrgyzstan (17,600 tons), Pakistan (12,800 tons), Afghanistan (7,600 tons), Tajikistan (3,800 tons), etc.

The list of exported fruit and vegetable products, in the reporting period, included products such as mung beans (35,000 tons), cabbage (25,400 tons), dried grapes (21,100 tons), fresh grapes (12,800 tons), tomatoes (12,000 tons), pomegranates (8,500 tons), etc.

In 2022, Uzbekistan exported to China some 127,200 tons of fruit and vegetables worth $104.6 million.

Meanwhile, during the first three months of 2023, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan amounted to $2.3 billion. Uzbekistan exported to China goods and services worth $358.5 million, while imports – were $1.9 billion.

The Uzbek State Statistics Committee notes that the largest volume of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover, during the first quarter of 2023, was recorded with China – 15.9 percent.
