BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Uzbekistan's Fergana Oil Refinery has deployed new generation tanks at its facilities that comply with the latest environmental and industrial safety standards, Trend reports.

As Sanoat Energetika Guruhi (Saneg), an operating company of the refinery, reported, these state-of-the-art tanks feature specialized pontoons designed to minimize product losses through evaporation. They also incorporate advanced measuring instruments for precise technological and commercial monitoring of stored petroleum products. The implementation of these tanks is expected to reduce irrecoverable losses by 2 percent, which is equivalent to approximately $1 million based on product value.

To ensure accurate metrological calculations, streamlined production control, inventory management, and spill-free tank filling, the refinery has deployed the TankRadar Rex measuring system developed by Swiss EndressHauser company. Real-time monitoring of critical parameters and automatic data storage in a secure database are key features of this advanced system.

"The refinery modernization program entails a phased decommissioning of outdated tanks. In the coming months, we will optimize and replace 116 out of 325 tanks with the new models. Additionally, we have plans to install 36 brand-new tanks. Currently, we have already delivered five tanks of 2,000 cubic meters capacity, five tanks of 3,000 cubic meters capacity, and two tanks of 10,000 cubic meters capacity to the refinery, with ongoing construction and installation activities," shared Abdusalom Abdumanoniy, Deputy Director of the refinery in charge of modernization and future development. The transition to these new tanks will also result in reduced hydrocarbon gas emissions into the atmosphere, estimated to be 800 tons per year during the autumn-winter period and 2,200 tons per year during the spring-summer months.

Earlier, Saneg reported that the modernization of the Fergana Refinery has been completed by 33 percent.

In 2020, Saneg initiated the modernization project for the Fergana Refinery. The aim is to enhance the refinery's capabilities and improve the quality of its products. By 2024, the facility will undergo expansion, enabling it to become the sole producer of Euro 5-grade gasoline and API Group II+/III lubricating oils in Uzbekistan.

Thus far, the modernization project has received substantial investments totaling over $249.6 million, sourced from external investors as well as the company's own funds. These investments will drive the advancement of the refinery and contribute to its technological development and increased production efficiency.
