TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 17. Uzbekistan's public debt amounted to 36.4 percent of the country's total GDP in 2022, Trend reports.
According to statistics received from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, this figure decreased compared to 2021, when it stood at 38 percent ($26.3 billion).
The report notes that at the beginning of January 2023, the balance of the state debt amounted to $29.2 billion. This amount includes $25.9 billion in external borrowings and $3.3 billion in domestic debt.
The debt on government securities reached 13 trillion Uzbek som (over $1 billion), and the amount of debt attracted with a state guarantee amounted to $2.16 billion.
In May this year, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree defining the maximum level of public debt at 60 percent of GDP.
According to the results of the first half of 2023, Uzbekistan's GDP amounted to 469.6 trillion Uzbek som ($38.9 billion).
