TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 13. A new coal deposit has been discovered in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, Trend reports.

Uzbekistan has begun development of a new coal mine in the upper part of the Tupalang reservoir in the Saryasi district of Surkhandarya region. As per preliminary calculations, the volume of coal deposits amounts to 11 million tons, although the number is being clarified.

At the moment, 35,000 tons of coal have already been prepared for consumers. In total, it is planned to have more than 95,000 tons of coal ready for the residents of Surkhandarya from this deposit from September through December 2023.

The experts' forecasts show that in 2023 the demand for coal will grow by 1.5 times, therefore, Uzbekistan plans an increase in coal production this year from 5.3 million tons to 6.5 million tons (an increase of 22.6 percent).
