TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 20. The Uzbek-Korean Potato Seed Production Center has started operating in Uzbekistan’s region of Samarkand, Trend reports.
The initiative for the implementation of this project followed an agreement between the Uzbek and South Korean parties in March 2023. The document provides for the attraction of funds from the Republic of Korea in the amount of $4.3 million.
Korean experts visited the farms of the region engaged in potato seed production, studying its current state and holding training seminars on the prospects for improving potato seed production with the participation of scientists and researchers from the International Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Production of Korea. As part of the project, a laboratory has been built to ensure plant reproduction using in vitro technology.
Earlier this month, the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) allocated a grant package of $15 million for the development of Uzbekistan's healthcare infrastructure, including a national program aimed at training employees of the sanitary and epidemiological service and the public health system on the basis of the Tashkent Medical Academy.
