TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 3. Total trading volume in Uzbekistan’s financial market has doubled from January through August 2023, Trend reports.
The total volume of trading on the financial market amounted to 336.1 trillion Uzbek soums ($27.3 billion) from January through August 2023, which is 54.4 percent more than 153.23 trillion soums ($12.4 billion) recorded in 2022. Transactions on the financial market accounted for almost half of the total trading volume on the Uzbek Commodity Exchange (UzEx).
Meanwhile, volume of transactions on the interbank financial market fixed at 226.41 trillion soums ($18.4 billion). Of these, volume of deposits with a placement period of up to 7 days amounted to 210.8 trillion soums ($17.1 billion) or 93 percent of the total interbank transactions.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that over a ton of precious metals have been sold on the Uzbek Commodity Exchange from January through September 2023, which is 4 times more than in the same period last year.
Moreover, Uzbekistan's Hayot Bank, Yangi Bank, Smart Bank, and Apex Bank have recently been granted membership in Uzbek Republican Stock Exchange, which would allow them to actively participate in exchange operations and expand their opportunities in Uzbekistan's financial market.
