TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 3. Uzbekistan and Qatar have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism and business events, Trend reports.
The news followed a recent meeting between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani in Qatar’s Doha.
To expand business ties, it was proposed to organize an intergovernmental commission, a business council and a business forum between Uzbekistan and Qatar. The first meetings of all three structures are scheduled to be held in January 2024 in Doha.
Speaking of tourism, Qatar is scheduled to host a week of Uzbek culture and tourism, which testifies to both sides working on improving tourism ties.
Uzbek Centrum Air airline made a significant move to develop tourism ties between the two countries when it launched direct flights connecting Uzbekistan’s Tashkent to Qatar’s Doha in August 2023.
Qatar Airways is also actively engaged in the expansion of air travel services between these two destinations. The airline is reviewing the establishment of regular flights between Doha and Tashkent. This initiative underscores the growing interest in fostering stronger ties and improving connectivity between these two dynamic regions, promising increased convenience and accessibility for travelers and businesses alike.
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan and Qatar have agreed to implement a number of joint project with a total worth of $12 billion. The sides agreed on the participation of leading Qatari companies in major investment projects in the energy, gas and chemical industries, agriculture, infrastructure, logistics, tourism and other sectors in Uzbekistan.
