TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 14. Prices for in Uzbekistan have risen by 1.5 times over the past week, Trend reports.
The average wholesale price of red tomatoes in Uzbekistan increased from 4,000 (33 cent) to 6,000 soums (49 cents) per kilogram from October 6 through October 13 of 2023.
Nevertheless, the current wholesale prices for these products remain below last year's levels. As of October 13, 2023, the average wholesale price of tomatoes is 40 percent lower than on the same date last year and a quarter lower than on the same date in 2021.
Over the past week, wholesale prices for pink tomatoes have also increased by 1.5 times. The average wholesale price for these products increased from 7,000 (57 cents) to 12,000 soums (98 cents) per kilogram, which is a 71 percent increase over the past two weeks.
As of October 13, 2023, the current wholesale prices for pink tomatoes are at the level of last year’s prices.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan exported $763.6 million worth of fruits and vegetables abroad from January through August 2023, which is 16.5 percent more than in the same period last year.
As per data provided by Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan exported 1.2 million tons of vegetables and fruits, which is 142,100 tons more than a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan’s trade turnover amounted to $40 billion from January through August 2023, which is 23.2 percent ($7.5 billion) more compared to the same period last year. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to $16.4 billion, an increase of 27.8 percent compared to 2022 calculations.
