TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 20. Uzbekistan has launched a plant for processing of medical and biological waste in the village of Bayaut of Uzbekistan’s Syrdarya region, Trend reports.
UNICEF and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization have each contributed 1.7 billion Uzbek soums ($138.9 million) to the initiatives.
The B group waste, which includes syringes, needles, vials, and reagents, as well as films and rubber gloves, will be re-incinerated in the workshop's equipment, processed, and turned into inert waste.
Meanwhile, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is considering granting grants to the Uzbek Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change for the development of Uzbekistan's waste management system, as well as improving the skills of ministry employees and subordinate organizations.
Norio Saito, Senior Director of the Water Resources and Urban Development Sector of ADB, proposed to start the 2nd phase of the Sustainable solid waste management project for the period from 2025 through 2026.
