Uzbekistan Railways reveals number of passengers using Afrosiyob high-speed train

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 14. Over 7 million passengers in Uzbekistan have used the Afrosiyob high-speed train in 12 years - since their purchase in 2011, Trend reports.

According to the Uzbekistan’s Temir Yullari JSC (Uzbekistan Railways), Afrosiyob trains carry about 3,000 passengers every day.

In 2011, two modern high-speed Afrosiyob trains, produced by the Spanish company Talgo, were put into operation on the railways of Uzbekistan. Over the past twelve years, the number of such trains in the country has reached six.

Currently, these trains regularly operate in the Tashkent – Samarkand – Tashkent, Tashkent – Bukhara – Tashkent and Tashkent – Karshi – Tashkent directions.

Meanwhile, from January through May 2023, 4.1 million passengers used the railway services in Uzbekistan. This figure is 13.5 percent more than a year earlier.

In the first five months of this year, 45.1 million tons of cargo were transported by rail, with an increase of 9.6 percent.

At the end of 2022, 8.9 million Uzbek citizens used railway transport, with an average of 24,600 passengers daily.
