TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 16. Benefits amounting to 60 trillion soums ($4.85 billion) were granted for imported goods worth $20 billion in 2023, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said, Trend reports.
He spoke at the meeting dedicated to the government's priorities for economic development this year.
However, Mirziyoyev said, there was no analysis of how effectively these benefits were used. He noted that the existing opportunities at the customs are not being used fully.
When examining only 3.2 trillion soums ($258.7 million) of the benefits used last year, it was found out that 420 billion soums ($33.9 million) or 13 percent of them were not used for the intended purpose.
Therefore, the Customs Committee was instructed to analyze the goods imported with preferential treatment.
In general, it was emphasized that the Tax Committee should attract 40 trillion soums ($32.3 billion), and the Customs Committee - at least 15 trillion soums ($12.1 billion) of additional funds to the budget this year.
