TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 29. The number of Uzbek citizens who left for permanent residence in Russia increased 1.9 times at the end of 2023 year-on-year (up to 2,670 people), Trend reports.

As per data from Uzbekistan's statistics agency, the number of people who left Uzbekistan for permanent residence abroad amounted to 17,300. Of this number, 15.4 percent, or 2,670 people, left for Russia.

A total of 8,800 people left Uzbekistan for permanent residence abroad in 2022, including 16.4 percent, or 1,400 people, to Russia. Thus, the number of those who left for Russia increased by 1.9 times in 2023.

The number of residents who arrived in Uzbekistan from abroad for permanent residence increased by 28.3 percent to 2,950 people in 2023, including from Russia - up to 1.175 thousand people (an increase of 1.4 times by 2022).

Earlier, the data of the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan showed that the number of Russians in the country decreased by 1.3 percent to 720,300 people in 2017–2020; the share of nationalities living in Uzbekistan has not changed much and is 2.1 percent.
