TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 26. Uzbekhydroenergo Joint Stock Company will build a cascade of six hydropower plants on the Naryn River in Uychi district on the border with Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.

The total capacity of hydropower plants is 228 megawatts. The cost of the project is $434 million.

As a result, 1 billion kWh of electricity will be generated each year, saving 310 million cubic meters of gas and providing power to 430,000 households.

Currently, power plants with a total capacity of 913 megawatts are operating in the Namangan region.

Meanwhile, Emirati Masdar Energy Company signed an agreement with Uzbekhydroenergo JSC on exploring the possibility of building pumped storage hydroelectric power plants throughout Uzbekistan.

According to Uzbekhydroenergo, the main purpose of the agreement is to solve problems with disruptions in electricity supply.

Despite an extensive portfolio of clean energy projects (Masdar's solar and wind power developments with a total capacity of 1.4 GW were introduced into Uzbekistan's energy system in December 2023), this agreement represents the company's first entry into Uzbekistan's pumped storage hydro sector.
