Russia's Tatarstan becomes major trade partner for Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 29. Trade turnover between Tatarstan and Uzbekistan last year increased by 27 percent and reached $370 million, the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said during a meeting with the governor of the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Kasimov, Trend reports.

Rustam Minnikhanov noted the active cooperation of leading enterprises of Tatarstan with Uzbek partners, emphasizing openness for investments and accessibility for foreign companies in the Russian market.

The sides discussed the supply of goods of Tatarstan producers and the use of Ayritom free trade zone. A delegation of Tatarstan enterprises will be formed in the coming weeks to study the potential and develop a roadmap.

Minnikhanov expressed gratitude for the support of the community in Surkhandarya region, where about 7,000 Tatars live. Ulugbek Kasimov emphasized readiness for further development of relations and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the total volume of Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover amounted to over $9.89 billion from January through February 2024.

According to the data of the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan, this figure increased by about $940 million, or 10.5 percent year-on-year.
