Uzbekistan discloses volume of its public debt in 2023

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 31. Uzbekistan's public debt amounted to $34.9 billion in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the data from Uzbekistan's Ministry of Economy and Finance, this figure has increased by 19.5 percent year-on-year ($29.2 billion in 2022).

Domestic debt accounted for $5.3 billion in 2023, which is up by 60.6 percent compared to the previous year’s number ($3.3 billion).

Uzbekistan’s foreign government debt reached $29.6 billion, showing an increase of 14.2 percent year-on-year ($25.9 billion in 2022).

Meanwhile, according to preliminary estimates, Uzbekistan's GDP amounted to 242.7 trillion soums ($19.1 billion) from January through March 2024. This figure has increased by 22.3 percent compared to the same period last year (198.4 trillion soums, or $15.6 billion in January-March 2023).

The largest share of GDP by types of economic activity falls on services (54 percent), followed by the industry sector (29.2 percent), agriculture, forestry, and fisheries (11.3 percent), and construction (5.5 percent).

At the same time, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan projects the country’s real GDP to amount to 5.2–5.7 percent in 2024.
