Iranian Politicians Comment on New US Sanctions

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend D.Khatinoglu / The USA's goal to carry out new sanctions against Iran is to make Tehran subject to the requirements of the international community and prevent the war, said the politician, activist of the Iran Democratic Party, Davud Kaviani, on 26 October by telephone from Strasburg. "The only way to prevent the war between Iran and the USA is to toughen sanctions against Iran," the politician said.

The US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, stated on 25 October that new sanctions will be carried out against Iran. According to the new sanctions, three more Iranian banks incurred boycott and the bank accounts of 20 companies and persons, who have ties to Iran's Sepah military force named as terror network, have been frozen. Saying that the sanctions are aimed at limiting Iran's nuclear program and terror acts, Rice added that the USA supports continuing discussions with Iran. Several US senators assess the new sanctions as a pretext for the USA to attack Iran and consider wrong the sanctions.

According to Kaviani, the new sanctions are not justification for the USA to attack Iran. To begin the war it needs to receive the US Congress's approval. Kaviani expressed his attitude towards the statement of the representative of the Iranian Government Muhammadali Guseyn that the US sanctions are illegal and such pressure of Washington will not bring to successes. Kaviani said that serious resistance of the Iranian Government against the new sanctions shows how their influence is strong.

"Applying new sanctions, the USA demonstrates serious position towards the radical position of Iran. The USA was very attentive in its sanctions due to pressure on Iranian people. The sanctions are directed not against Iranian people, but Government," the politician said.

The member of the Economic Studies Council of the Iranian Parliament, Jamshid Pejuan, considers that the resolutions and sanctions against Iran bring damage to the Government and people. "Several sanctions against Iran are unfair. No military facts have been discovered in the nuclear activities of Iran. In addition, several sanctions have not been accepted by the international community," Pejuan said.

According to the Iranian expert, official Tehran will not change its position and despite the claims of the USA, these sanctions will not prevent Iran and the international community will not sufficiently support the USA.
