(dpa) -  Russia's United Aircraft Corporation and Iran's Organization for Air and Space Industry signed Tuesday an agreement for Iran to buy 100 Russian passenger planes over the next 10 years, the Interfax news agency reported, citing the UAC.

The deal comes a day after the United Nations Security Council passed tougher economic sanctions against Iran in the ongoing dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme.

Iran is to buy Russia medium-range Tupolev Tu-204 and Tu-214 passenger planes. A portion of the planes are to be completed from Russian parts in Iran. The first planes are to be delivered at two years.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.
