Iran has sent two warships in the Gulf of Aden to fight pirates, Iranian television reported.
The warships will arrive in the Gulf in two days, said the letter from the Permanent Representative of Iran to the UN Mohammad Khazaee addressed to secretary general of organization. Ships will stay in the Gulf for five months.
"The purpose of sending warships in the Gulf of Aden is security of both ships of Iranian and other countries," Khazaee says in the letter.
According to him, Iranian warships will assist the Government of Somalia to combat pirates.
