The Iranian Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee members and officials of the Tehran Prosecutor's Office had a meeting, Committee Member Salman Zakir was quoyted as saying by the Iranian Fars news agency. During the meeting, representatives of the prosecutor's office said that the structure have been instructed in connection with the arrest of 'backstage' leaders of the rallies on Ashura Day.
According to Zakir, based on the prosecutor's office's documents and the confessions of arrested, the police arrested about 40 'backstage' leaders of the clashes.
At present, the prosecutor's office works to transfer the cases of arrested persons to the court, he added.
Opposition supporters and police clashed on Ashura Day Dec. 27 in Tehran.
According to international news agencies, the riots resulted in the deaths of 15 people. Police arrested 550 people. According to the official information, the clashes killed eight people, including one woman, and 300 people arrested. The relevant agencies publicized their names.
